Terms of Service
Last updated: April 5, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using NitroVIN ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service. We may update these terms at any time; continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.
2. Description of Service
NitroVIN is a free, publicly accessible tool that allows users to look up vehicle information by entering a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Vehicle data is retrieved from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) vPIC API, a public database maintained by the United States federal government.
3. Data Accuracy and Informational Use Only
Vehicle data displayed on NitroVIN is sourced directly from the NHTSA database and is provided for informational purposes only. We do not independently verify, modify, or guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or currentness of any data returned.
NHTSA's database may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information. You should not rely solely on data from NitroVIN when making vehicle purchase decisions, legal assessments, insurance evaluations, or safety determinations. Always verify critical vehicle information through official sources, a licensed dealer, or a qualified professional.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in a manner that does not infringe the rights of others. You agree not to:
- Use automated scripts, bots, crawlers, or any non-human means to query the Service
- Attempt to circumvent rate limits or access restrictions
- Use the Service to build a competing product by systematically extracting data
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, including fraud or identity theft
5. Rate Limits
To ensure fair access for all users, anonymous users are limited to 25 VIN lookups per day per IP address. Registered users with a verified account are limited to 100 VIN lookups per day. These limits are subject to change. We reserve the right to throttle or block access to users or IP addresses that exceed these limits or abuse the Service.
6. Third-Party Services
The Service relies on the NHTSA vPIC API, which is operated by a third party outside our control. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or content of that API. NitroVIN may also display third-party advertisements. We are not responsible for the content of any advertisements or the products and services they promote.
7. Intellectual Property
The NitroVIN name, logo, design, and original source code are the property of NitroVIN and may not be copied, reproduced, or distributed without permission. Vehicle data retrieved from NHTSA is in the public domain as a product of the United States federal government and is not owned by NitroVIN.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. We make no warranty regarding the accuracy or reliability of any data returned by the Service.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Nitrovin and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service — including but not limited to damages resulting from decisions made based on vehicle data retrieved through the Service.
10. Modifications to the Service
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any part of it) at any time, with or without notice. We are not liable to you or any third party for any such modification, suspension, or discontinuation.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Tennessee, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Tennessee.
